Equatorial Guinea is located in Africa, along the Gulf of Guinea. The capital city is Malabo. The time difference is about six hours ahead of Washington D.C. While Equatorial Guinea is mostly located in the main body of Africa, there is also a small island located in the center of the Gulf of Guinea. In 1968, Equatorial Guinea gained independence from Spanish rule, after 190 years. Hence why Equatorial Guinea is a Spanish speaking country. The Spanish language is spoken by 67.6% of it's people, while other languages take up 32.4%. They celebrate their freedom from Spain on October 12th each year. While you may have never heard of this quaint country before, they are making their way to being known with the discovery of large off-shore oil reserves that have been discovered in the last decade.
